Building Big: Working with Coils

Wednesdays / 6 weeks, July 8 - August 12/ 6:30 - 8:30 with Chrissy Trout / $185

Start thinking big.  It's easy to build a large structure out of clay when you're working with coils.  Students will work for eight weeks on one large coiled piece or a set of two or three relatively smaller pieces. Make a pot for the garden, a bird bath, a sculpture, or whatever else you may have in mind. You will be taught how to roll large amounts of clay into coils and also how to use the extruder to make coils. Learn how to make quick internal and external supports for your structure and how to build a large piece in sections. Emphasis will also be placed on surface treatment. A groggy cone 10 clay body is recommended such as Standard 108, Standard 119, or Highwater Craggy Crunch.
