Fieldtrip: Sugarmaples Week with Salt firing (5 days)

Join us for five days of first salt firing and then making pots while we wait for the kiln to cool down at bucolic and serene Sugarmaples Craft Center in Catskills New York. This workshop is lead by Susan Beecher and Outi Putkonen as additional support. Susan will walk us through decorating, glazing and loading a salt kiln which we will fire on the second day of the workshop. If you didn't go with us last year to make the pots we are glazing and firing in June you can bring cone 10 bisque to glaze and fire. While the kiln is cooling Susan will introduce the participants to throwing and altering forms and the student can save and have the pieces bisque fired and bring them back to fire either at Mugi or later in the fall for a woodfring trip (dates and location tba). Outi will be teaching how to make taller and bigger pots by combining thrown sections at different stages from wet to leather hard. The Sugarmaples studio will be open for us to work and enjoy the space for additonal practice times before and after the workshop hours of 10am to 5pm. The fee includes accommodations in comfortable shared rooms  with private bathrooms (two ppl per room) as well as lunch and dinner.
