Camp Description:
Calling all Junior Chefs for this 3-day baking excursion to the British Isles! Explore British baking traditions with Chef Laura Thomsen in this fun, hands-on camp. We’ll explore the art of creating British scones and crafting the perfect lemon curd to complement them. Then we’ll learn how to make classic digestive biscuits, that staple of British baking, and Scottish shortbreads. Finally, we’ll learn all about Sticky Toffee Pudding and Trifle Cakes, and then make them from scratch. We’ll keep our campers well-fed with a break bar of either Potato Skins or delicious soup. Each day, your Junior Chef will take something home from class that the whole family can enjoy, along with all the recipes so they can re-create these amazing baked goods at home. Whether your Junior Chef is a seasoned baker or just beginning their baking journey, the British Baking Experience promises to elevate their baking skills.
Day 1: Scones & Lemon Curd
On the first day, we’ll explore the versatility of scones as we guide your Junior Chefs through crafting two distinct varieties: sweet and savory. Indulge in the sweet sensation of our delectable traditional scone, featuring Craisins topped with fresh clotted cream and orange glaze. Then learn the secrets behind creating the smoothest, most tangy lemon curd, a quintessential British spread that will complement our freshly-baked scones. Then we’ll dive into the savory world with a tantalizing ham and cheese scone. We’ll enjoy a traditional British tea time with our freshly baked scones and lemon curd. And your Junior Chef will leave with enough scone dough to bake more in your kitchen.
Day 2: Biscuits & Shortbreads
On our second day, we’ll explore the differences between American and British biscuits. Then we’ll have our Junior Chefs rolling in dough as they make a classic digestive biscuit, that staple of British baking. We’ll even decorate our biscuits with chocolate! Finally, we’ll learn how to make a buttery, delicately sweet Scottish shortbread that can be molded into many different shapes. Junior Chefs will bring home dough so they can re-create the magic in your kitchen.
Day 3: Sticky Toffee Pudding & Raspberry Trifle Cake
Our final day of camp is all about British desserts. We’ll start with that most quintessential of British desserts, Sticky Toffee Pudding, a moist sponge cake made with finely chopped dates and covered in a sticky toffee sauce. It’s easy to make and so satisfying! Finally, we’ll make an English Trifle Cake layered with raspberry preserves, lemon curd, and whipped cream made with cream, milk, and white chocolate. Get ready for a final day filled with scrumptious fair and enough food to take home!

Please click here for a full description of our policies and FAQ’s. Finalization of your registration tells us that you have read and understand them. Below is a summary of some of the key information, but it is not all-inclusive.
- For multi-session classes and camps, we will gladly give you a full refund if you need to cancel more than three weeks prior to the start of the first class in the series and/or camp. Within three weeks of the start of a series, no refunds or credits will be given. Please note that any refund issued for classes purchased using a Gift Certificate or Account Credit will result in reinstatement of the original Gift Card or Account Credit and will bear the same expiration date. Account Credits issued for cancelations within three weeks of a class will expire one year from the date of issuance. We reserve the right to cancel a class for any reason, at any time, in which case you will receive a full refund. In the event your child misses a class in the series or camp, no refunds will be given and it is not possible to make up the class(es) in a future similar series. Likewise, once the series or camp has begun, no substitutions will be allowed since the series is designed for the classes to build upon each other.
- If (a) you’d like to sit with another registered guest, or (b) have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know in the Comments section of your registration after reading our full description of policies and information about classes. We encourage you to download, print, and sign the waiver and bring it to class with your child. If someone other than the parent signs a Waiver, they will need a legal document to be presented that shows without question that they have the legal authority to sign a Waiver on behalf of your child at that time. Without an appropriately signed Waiver, your child will not be allowed to attend the class. If someone other than the parent drops off your child and requests to sign on behalf of a child, they will need evidence that they are a legal guardian for that child.
