Class Description:
Kolaches are a beloved Czech pastry that make any morning brighter! In this hands-on baking class, you'll learn how to make an enriched yeasted dough from scratch and prepare both sweet and savory fillings for these pillowy handheld treats. Your guide is Pastry Chef Catie Wiley, who joins us after a distinguished career as a pastry chef at several iconic patisseries and restaurants on the East Coast.

We'll start by combining basic ingredients like flour, yeast, eggs, butter and milk to form a soft, pliable dough. As you learn the proper techniques for kneading and proofing, this dough will transform into the perfect base for your kolache creations. For your sweet filling, you'll prepare cream cheese with fresh berries or fruit preserves. This creamy custard is a perfect pairing for the dough's subtle sweetness.

On the savory side, you'll make a flavorful filling of tangy goat cheese and caramelized onions with fresh herbs. These work as both a breakfast and lunch option. Once the dough rises, you'll learn how to properly stuff, shape and proof the kolaches before baking them to golden, puffy perfection. Straight from the oven, their fresh-baked aroma is simply irresistible.

By the end of the class, you'll take home a variety of sweet and savory kolaches to share, along with the recipes and skills to keep baking up these tasty treasures. With a plush, yeasted dough and your choice of fillings, kolaches make any day delightfully delicious.

• We provide a full refund if you need to cancel more than three weeks prior to the start of a scheduled class. You will receive an Account Credit if you need to cancel at any time within three weeks but prior to the class start time. Please note that any refund issued for classes purchased using a Gift Certificate or Account Credit will result in reinstatement of the original Gift Card or Account Credit and will bear the same expiration date. Account Credits issued for cancelations within three weeks of a class will expire one year from the date of issuance. We reserve the right to cancel a class for any reason, at any time, in which case you will receive a full refund.
• This class is for adults 18+. Children 14-17 years old are allowed if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please let us know if you plan to bring a minor.
