Learn to "think like a chef" using seasonal market fruits, vegetables, and herbs based on what we are harvesting at Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm on the day of class (we grow hundreds of varieties during our peak season of May-Sept). In this 1.75-hour class, you will learn about up to 6 fruits, herbs, and vegetables we are harvesting at the farm at the time the class is held. You will make 3-4 dishes using 1 or more of each of the featured farm-fresh ingredients. This may include salads, soups, pickling, and other hot or cold dishes. In this hands-on class,
Chef Mark will
- Talk about the varieties we grow and provide some information on how we grow
- Explain key the ingredients, and how to “think like a chef” in using them
- Teach you key techniques for how to use these key ingredients
- Demonstrate at least 3 recipes
Participants will
- Learn about how to prepare and store the featured ingredients
- Learn how to make at least 3 dishes featured in class, and tips for “thinking like a chef” to come up with your own recipes
- Taste dishes made in class
- Take home featured recipes and samples
No cooking experience necessary.
Classes are designed for adults. Teens and tweens may attend with a supportive, registered adult.
We will have hot coffee and tea, and cold water available. Feel free to bring nonalcoholic beverages with you.
NOTE: Ingredients for this class are not known in advance because the recipes are inspired each time by what we are harvesting in the field. Please let us know if you need a vegan option (can be done, but we need to know in advance).
