Brushstrokes of Hope: Empowering NH Youth Through Art
Brushstrokes of Hope is a free grant-funded program designed to empower New Hampshire youth ages 11–14 through the transformative power of art. Through engaging, therapeutically-informed creative activities, participants build self-confidence, resilience, healthy relationships, decision-making skills, and a stronger sense of identity and community.
As part of this one-day workshop experience, participants become eligible to enroll in ongoing free weekly Brushstrokes art classes and participate in community mural and engagement projects.
Free for New Hampshire residents while grant funding is available.
Program Details
- Ages: 11–14
- Eligibility: Current New Hampshire residents
- Location: Hammar's Studios, Salem, NH
- Format: One-day workshop (required before enrolling in weekly Brushstrokes classes)
Workshop Topics Include:
- Self-esteem & identity
- Friendship & healthy relationships
- Goal setting & decision making
- Setting healthy boundaries
- Social media & internet safety
- Drugs & alcohol: Fact or Fiction
- Dreams, goals, and future planning
Art Activities Include:
- Games & Vision Boards
- Mini Self-Portraits
- Canvas Paintings
- Interactive Illustrations & Creative Challenges
Registration:
Registration is completed online at HammarsStudios.com under the Events page. Participants are required to complete a brief entry and exit survey.
Drop-Off & Pick-Up:
- Drop-off begins 10 minutes before the workshop.
- Pick-up is at the scheduled end time.
- A valid NH driver's license or ID is required at drop-off.
Lunch:
A complimentary pizza lunch is provided. Families may send additional snacks or a nut-free lunch and beverage. Please use disposable bags and water bottles, as participants will be bringing artwork home.

Please leave valuable personal belongings at home, as Hammar's Studios cannot be responsible for lost items.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often can my child attend?
Participants may attend one workshop per year. Workshop completion serves as the prerequisite for enrollment in weekly Brushstrokes classes and remains valid for one year.
Is there a cost?
No. The program is completely free for NH families thanks to grant funding.
Will workshops be offered elsewhere?
Yes. Brushstrokes of Hope partners with schools, community centers, clubs, and youth organizations throughout New Hampshire.
