Make your own batch of cold process soap with flower embellishments in this beginner soap making class! You will start by making soap dough flowers to decorate the top of your bars. We will cover a variety of techniques, tips, and tools including pressing in fondant style molds, using clay cutters, and hand sculpting. Once the embellishments are ready, Elizabeth will give a demonstration of mixing lye solution with oils for your base bars. Then she will work around the room guiding students in pairs while you mix and pour your own batch. You will be able to select a colorant and fragrance for your soaps.
All materials and tools are provided.
What to bring/wear for lye safety, please wear closed toe shoes, long sleeves, and hair ties if necessary.
Recommended age 18 and up, or over 14 with a parent.
We will also cover basic lye safety, a brief overview of the science of saponification, a take home list of resources for soap recipes, and Elizabeth's favorite suppliers.
Your soaps will be ready to pick up on the Wednesday following class (March 20). Cold process soaps perform the best when allowed 4-6 weeks to cure in open air. Your soaps will be at their peak quality in early May- which means they would also make great Mother's Day gifts!
About Elizabeth: Soap making is my passion and definitely my happy place! I began making basic soap bars in 2019 and quickly found myself trying all sorts of designs and techniques. I love pushing the limits of my skill to create unique soap designs and I am so excited to introduce others to my world of "fancy soaping!"
Each participant will get 1lb of soap which makes at least 4 bars of soap, (4 oz each).
