The Art Sale at the End of the World: Degas, Paris, and the End of the First World War

Michael Neiberg will provide a historical perspective of Modernism by telling the story of an infamous sale of a Degas painting at the end of WWI. Join us as we explore the political, economic and human conditions which caused a shift from a pre-modern view of nationalism to the splitting of ideologies, namely Capitalism, Socialism and Fascism. SAM museum staff will join Dr. Neiberg in connecting the historical context with selected works in the exhibition.
