Maybe you've thrifted for years. Maybe you have a Pinterest board full of upcycled pieces you've never figured out how to make. Maybe you've thought about learning to sew — but every class you've found felt like it was made for someone else.
This one isn't.
Our Upcycling 101 Series is a 6-session experience for adults who want to learn the skills to give their thrifted items a new life.
We'll start at the sewing machine to learn the basics. We'll make a lined tote bag from upcycled materials. We'll talk about textiles and what to look for in a quality thrift (and also what to avoid.) Then we'll head to a local thrift store together for a guided shopping experience. Choose your project and spend the final sessions transforming it into something you actually want to wear.
By Session 6, you'll have:
→ The ability to successfully operate a sewing machine
→ A 15x20" lined tote bag
→ At least one transformed thrifted garment — your choice, your vision, made by your hands!
→ Fabric knowledge and how to successfully select materials for quality flips
→ Knowledge of how a garment is constructed as well as how to deconstruct your thrifted items to give them a new life
You'll learn to read fabric, understand how garments are built, deconstruct and reconstruct with intention, and make design decisions that look intentional, not salvaged.
