This class is designed to introduce students to the world of art glassblowing via lampworking -- the practice of shaping glass with tools and hand movements.
Students will start with a thorough orientation in set-up and safety when working with torches and hot glass and gain an understanding of the tools and equipment used before starting their work. Students will learn basic design and color choices when creating glass art, followed by an instructor-led demo, and will finish with working hands-on for the rest of the class to make their own art with the instructor's help.
Students will not only take away a new understanding of glass art and the skills involved with making it, but they will also take home one-of-a-kind art they produce themselves.
The class will cover a broad overview of glass in general and intensely focus on specific techniques pertaining to the class.
