Embrace Your Curiosity: Creative Process Workshop (6 weeks)

NOTE: If your desired class date is not listed below, that means the session is closed.

Description

Have you been struggling with your ideas or creative process? Do you feel creatively stuck and unsure of how to get unstuck? Do you simply want to bring more creativity and innovation into your artistic practice or life in general? Then this class is for you!

Deeply ingrained in our culture is the belief that creativity is an innate ability allotted only to a gifted few, when the reality is that creativity can be learned, practiced and honed. Like the creative process itself this course will be some part practical, logical, roadmaps and some part wild-ride, see-with-your-eyes-closed, get vulnerable, embrace failure, and get ready to experiment, follow your curiosity and try anything!

This class will use the photographic medium as a tool for students to explore the creative process along with short readings, A/V content, and various in-class and homework exercises. Students will learn how to tap into their innate creative abilities and gain tools to combat fears and perfectionism and shake up their normal routine in healthy ways in order to create space for new ideas. Texts drawn from will include Art and Fear, The Artist’s Way, Big Magic, The Photographer’s Playbook and others.

Who should take this class

Also useful for those who want to move beyond the technical and start thinking more deeply about why they make work and what are some stumbling blocks that might be preventing them from moving forward creatively.

High-level camera skills are not necessary, but knowledge of basic manual operation is recommended.
