Camp Description:
Join us for a fantastical 4-day summer cooking camp for Young Chefs (ages 9-14) who love the journey of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and all the kids at Hogwarts School as you learn how to make enchanting foods fit for a wizard. Professor Laura Thomsen, a self-professed Potterhead, will be in charge of this School of Kitchen Witchcraft & Culinary Wizardry! She’s super excited to teach this magically awesome 4-day cooking series where you’ll gather in The Culinary Center of Kansas City’s Great Hall Kitchen and learn dazzling culinary wizardry (aka essential cooking techniques). As you soak in all of the tips and tricks, you’ll learn an array of enchanting dishes, including culinary sorcery such as Ham and Cheese Howlers, Flaming Phoenix Wings, Aragog Arachnid Meatballs with Gravy, Slytherin Sausage Rolls, Hagrid’s Rock Cakes, Chocolate Frogs, and so much more! You’ll leave with all the recipes so you may recreate the yummy dishes at home in your own castle to show off to friends and family.
Day 1:
You’ll arrive to a tasty snack of Dobie’s Sausage Gravy & Biscuits. We’ll jump in as we learn the basics of castle cooking. Then we’ll create Ham & Cheese Howlers (with Pepperoni!) and Flaming Phoenix Wings (Chicken Wings!). It’s hard work cooking in a castle so we’ll break out the cauldrons and create a Soothing Summer Ice Potion to cool off, as we create the cookie dough for delicious Sorting Hat Cookies that we’ll bake on Day 2. We’ll also whip up Potion’s Master Poolish, a fermented bread dough that we will use to bake bread on the fourth day of class.
Day 2:
Today, we’ll know if you are a Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Gryffindor. Wait, what? No sorting hat? No problem! We’ll make our very own as Professor walks us through the ins and outs of baking one of her fav recipes - Sorting Hat Cookies. Hogwarts students know better than anyone that we need something other than sugar to get us through our spells and studies, so we’ll face our spidery fears with some Aragog Arachnid Meatballs swimming in a tantalizing Gravy (Marinara Sauce) and served up with Mashed Spud Piles. To finish off our day of magical scholarship, we’ll cool off with an ice-cold Summer Brew Butterbeer. Shh – don’t tell Professor Snape about our trip to The Leaky Cauldron!
Day 3:
After a long and tiresome journey from the muggle world, it’s always good to have a dish that gets us up on our broomsticks in the morning, so Professor will show us how to create Dragon’s Egg Bake (Scotch Eggs!). Then it’s a nod and a thank you to Hagrid as we make Hagrid’s Rock Cakes (Oatmeal Raisin Cookies!). And Quidditch fans, get ready to play as we make Baked Bludgers (Potatoes!). Finally, we’ll celebrate our trip on the Hogwarts Express and learn how to make a student favorite – those famous Chocolate Frogs.
Day 4:
Congratulations, young wizard! You’ve made it to the last day of Professor’s School of Kitchen Witchcraft and Culinary Wizardry. We hope you remember what Professor taught you about making magical fires in large metal boxes because today you’ll put those skills to work as we learn essentials of making yeast dough, so you may conjure up some Slytherin Sausage Rolls with Pizza Dipping Sauce! We’ll also try our hand at Snake-Eye Salad (Mozzarella, Cherry Tomatoes, and Honeydew Melon!), Leaky Cauldron Loaded Baked Potato Soup, and Molten Chocolate Cauldron Cakes, and Cockroach Clusters (Pretzels, Caramel, and Bacon!). What a way to wrap up our journey through Harry’s Magical Kitchen!
Notes:
Please click here for a full description of our policies and FAQ’s. Finalization of your registration tells us that you have read and understand them. Below is a summary of some of the key information, but it is not all-inclusive.
- For multi-session classes and camps, we will gladly give you a full refund if you need to cancel more than three weeks prior to the start of the first class in the series and/or camp. Within three weeks of the start of a series, no refunds or credits will be given. Please note that any refund issued for classes purchased using a Gift Certificate or Account Credit will result in reinstatement of the original Gift Card or Account Credit and will bear the same expiration date. Account Credits issued for cancelations within three weeks of a class will expire one year from the date of issuance. We reserve the right to cancel a class for any reason, at any time, in which case you will receive a full refund. In the event your child misses a class in the series or camp, no refunds will be given and it is not possible to make up the class(es) in a future similar series. Likewise, once the series or camp has begun, no substitutions will be allowed since the series is designed for the classes to build upon each other.
- If (a) you’d like to sit with another registered guest, or (b) have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know in the Comments section of your registration after reading our full description of policies and information about classes. Please note that children on the same registration form will automatically be seated together.
- Your registration tells us that you have read through the class description including the age requirements for that particular class.
- For Junior Chef (ages 9-14) classes and camps: Your child must be at least 9 years old as of the first class date (or as of the date of the first class of a series or camp) and no more than 14 years old. We reserve the right to check the age of your child. You must provide an Under 18 Waiver that is signed by a parent or legal guardian. Click here for a copy of the Under 18 Waiver. We encourage you to download, print, and sign the waiver and bring it to class with your child. If someone other than the parent signs a Waiver, they will need a legal document to be presented that shows without question that they have the legal authority to sign a Waiver on behalf of your child at that time. Without an appropriately signed Waiver, your child will not be allowed to attend the class. If someone other than the parent drops off your child and requests to sign on behalf of a child, they will need evidence that they are a legal guardian for that child. Please choose the class that is right for the developmental level and maturity of your child.
