Tap into your creativity and explore the art of storytelling in this engaging, low-pressure writing class for adults. Each session offers a fresh theme or focus, paired with guided prompts and on-the-spot writing exercises designed to spark ideas, build confidence, and encourage self-expression. From personal essays to imaginative pieces, participants will experiment with different styles and approaches while developing their unique voice.
This class is designed for all experience levels—whether you’re brand new to writing or returning to a long-lost hobby. We foster a supportive, welcoming environment where sharing is always optional and creativity is celebrated. Participants should bring whatever they prefer to write with (notebook, laptop, tablet, etc.) and can expect to leave each class with new ideas, fresh inspiration, and works in progress to continue at home.
Upcoming Classes:
Wednesday, April 22, 3-4:30pmWriting About Our Lives:Practice the art of writing short and sweet personal essays. Participants will look at published examples and follow on-the-spot writing exercises meant to get memory and inspiration flowing in new directions. Writing classes are about open experimentation in a community of voices. The perfect class for someone interested in finding ways to experiment with telling personal stories.
Wednesday, May 6, 10-11:30amWriting About Anniversaries:Every day is the anniversary of something in our lives! Using the theme of ‘anniversaries’ and following guided writing exercises, participants will create an inventory of memories and then write on-the-spot short essays that try to capture poignant details of the past and reflect on how those events may have rippled across time. Writing classes are about open experimentation in a community of voices.
Sharing your work aloud is welcome but always optional. Participants will come away with the beginning of a new essay and some ideas for how to continue on their own.
These classes are taught by April Sopkin.
