SHIELD Mentor Program AAMASE Sessions

Welcome to Forge Greensboro's AAMASE Program in partnership with TERC. AAMASE stands for "African American Young Women in Making to Engage in STEM and Entrepreneurship" and is geared toward young Black women ages 13-19. 

AAMASE is a co-design program that seeks to study to efficacy of introducing Black young women to STEM careers and entrepreneurship through a makerspace setting.

In this program participants will: 

• Engage in product design and making 
• Participate in three making disciplines: Advanced Manufacturing and Automated Tools (CNC and CAD), Ceramics, and Textiles 
• Gain valuable entrepreneurship skills 
• Receive foundational STEM career education 

This two week program will introduce youth to a STEM education curriculum through the art of making! Program dates are as follows: 

• August 7th: 12-5pm 
• August 8th: 12-5pm 
• August 9th: 12-5pm 
• August 10th: 12-5pm 
• August 11th: 12-5pm 
• August 14th: 12-5pm
• August 15th: 12-5pm 
• August 16th: 12-5pm 
• August 17th: 12-5pm 
• August 18th: 12-5pm 

All programmatic sessions will be held at Forge Greensboro located at 219 W Lewis Street, Greensboro, NC 27406. All program sessions are FREE for participants and lunch/snacks will be provided. Participants must be between the ages of 12 and 19 years old. Transportation will not be provided for participants.

The AAMASE project is supported by the National Science Foundation under award number 2148543. AAMASE is a research project and all program sessions will be audio and video recorded with parent and child consent. Consent forms and further information will be provided on August 7th.
