Become a student at Craft Haus’ Pottery Studio and enjoy the creative freedom of open studio time while enrolled in classes! Our creative community is a wonderful way to hone your craft and sharpen your skills. We offer white stoneware and brown-speckled clay - the possibilities are endless!
Intro to Hand Building 6 week course is priced at $399 and includes 12lbs of clay (6lbs of White High Fire and 6lbs of Brown Speckled High Fire for you to be able to work with both), access to Craft Haus studio tools, equipment, and glaze.
The course curriculum is as follows:
1. PINCH POTS - GETTING TO KNOW THE CLAY •Intro to wedging• Basics of pinch pot method, applying it to create practical vessels• Use these to explore what is possible with wet, plastic clay• Test the clays ability to stretch; the possibilities and limitations• These pinch pots will serve as test pieces for glazes, and other varioussurface treatments that will be explored in the green-ware and bisque stage
2.SLAB PROJECT • A focus on the stages of clay dryness will be taught, including preventative measures for faults such as cracking and warping.•Construct a pitcher using the slab method.•This project will focus on rolling out sheets of clay to build other • Create handles using slabs
3. INTRO TO GLAZING- •Introduce methods of glazing (dipping/brushing) to finish
4. COIL PROJECT • Use coils to construct a free-form function or sculptural vessel
5. COIL PROJECT (CONTINUED) •Continue adding coils to complete the project.
6. GLAZING TECHNIQUES • Use glazing basics from previous glaze class to apply new techniques • Execute ideas using the various techniques 2-3 techniques using stroke and coats.
The BIGGEST benefit to taking one of our courses, apart from learning from our wonderful Instructors, is having access to our Open Studio Hours 7 days a week. **Class members enrolled in hand building that are not former students or have not taken a wheel evaluation do not have access to pottery wheels during open studio time**
