In this class, students will be introduced to DIY screen-printing through several non-chemical methods of creating and printing a screen.
We will cover a variety of DIY printing techniques through discussion, and print our own custom designs using a hand-painted screen filler and a vinyl technique that utilizes tools available to us at the Forge. The instructor will cover how to adapt a design in the computer to be read by the vinyl-cutting plotter, how to run the plotter, and how to attach your vinyl to a screen for printing.
Using water-based inks, we will print our designs on test fabrics, or students can bring in fabric goods to print on. If students wish, they can bring their own custom design to class on a USB drive (or email it to the instructor, see email below), to be able to cut and use for their practice print.
Students will leave with an understanding of the techniques, materials and tools needed to screen-print for themselves, and samples of their work from class.
STUDENTS BRING: Pen + paper for notes, (Optional) your own vector design to print (Email your design to: AnnT@forgegreensboro.org if desired or bring it on a USB drive), (Optional) fabric goods to print on (T-shirts, tote bags, etc)
