Class Description:
The rustic centuries-old Spanish dish known as Paella has reemerged as the ultimate party food. Whether you’re planning a casual get-together or a family celebration, Paella is the perfect choice because it’s a lavish meal in a single pan that goes a long way. Your guide is longtime Instructor Chef Richard McPeake. Chef Richard retired as Lead Chef Instructor of Kansas City Kansas Community College Culinary Center Chef Instructor for 20 years and is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. He has won countless awards throughout his career including the American Royal Grand Champion plus seven first place ribbons.
Tonight, Chef Richard is throwing you a Paella party menu that we're certain you'll be able to recreate in your own kitchen. He'll serve an amazing Spanish starter of a Catalan Roasted Vegetable Salad and then dive straight into our cooking lesson as you learn how to make the traditional Chiringuito Seafood Paella using the aromatic mixtures of rice, meats, and spices. Next you will make a Grilled Chicken, Asparagus, Manchego & Sausage Paella, two amazing choices that suit any palate.
We will take you step-by-step through the process of creating this fabulous dish, starting with Sofrito, a sautéed mixture of onions, peppers, garlic and tomato that is the base of flavor for Paella. We’ll learn how to make Paella’s unmistakable saffron-scented rice and how to develop layers of flavor. We never let guests leave without dessert so we're showing you how to do a Spanish Orange Flan, ending the night on a sweet note.
