Ages 16+
A parent/guardian must be present at class beginning to sign waiver, but not required to be present for class.
The music we have made is based on creating artifacts of our existence. This is actually different than making music for the purpose of making money, making art, expression, or even communication.
The main focus for this recording class is - “I was here, I’m human, this is what I recorded, this is what I did with it - and of course - this is what I learned!”
The workshop instructor will provide music production gear such as a music recording console. Participants may bring their own instruments, but this is optional. Participants will come away with a recording of a soundscape built from the manipulated sounds they captured during the field recording.
The workshop is open to all - no previous experience with a musical instrument or music production is required.
Workshop participants will:
- Become familiar with the music gear used in the field recording session and will explore music production considerations. These considerations include creating a structure from field sampling and improvisation in order to build a song.
- Learn about various tools that can be used to manipulate sound (software based music production tools)

Instructor: Kevin Cardoso and Ben Turner
Kevin believes that making music is part of basic human behavior and that the process of making music is synonymous with creating value in one's life. When you capture music in the form of a sound recording, you are creating an artifact of your existence. He enjoys sharing the knowledge he has and exploring other's potential. He has experience in teaching people of all age groups and abilities. He believes that patience and flexibility is an important approach to help people loosen up, learn, and engage in the process.
