A person is said to be resilient if they have the capacity to overcome adversity and/or difficult times. Cities are considered resilient if they readily adapt to challenges; connected systems and infrastructure in place that limit damage and speed up recovery time. Resiliency is the positive result of dealing with shocks and stress. Stresses are chronic, slow moving disasters that cause weakness over time. On the other hand, acute shocks are sudden threatening events, usually short-lived but the effects and clean-up often long lasting. Physical, social, and economic connections are the foundation that provide basic needs in both good and bad times.
How do we promote resilience in our lives, communities and the world? Come and explore new ideas, community partnerships and resources around resilience and preparedness.
Topics include: Natural disasters, electricity, community, land forms, water cycle, bacteria and much more!! Teachers will leave with resources to implement into classroom lessons.

Beyond extending understanding of specific content, students collaborate and build confidence in 21st Century skills of communication, critical thinking and problem solving. Participants will experience a break-out session and learn how this activity can lead to active and engaged learning for all ages and levels of students. Come and experience the excitement of discovery and finding answers to the unknown and develop a model specific to grade level and content and resources for classroom use.
