Class Description:

For this Mother’s Day, we have the perfect morning activity for moms and families. Join Pastry Chef Natasha Goellner as she shows us how to make delicious scones. You won’t believe how versatile this classic British staple can be! Chef Natasha is a graduate of The French Culinary Institute, past owner of Mulberry & Mott (Country Club Plaza, KC) and currently the Pastry Chef at The Antler Room, so you will learn much from this engaging professional. In this 2-hour interactive class, she’ll teach you essential baking and pastry techniques as well as tips for shaping and baking all types of scones. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to handle the dough (lightly!) and when to stop (sooner than you think!). Plus, you will explore flavorings and add-ins like chocolate, orange, blueberries, and apricots. Chef Natasha will also demonstrate how to make a classic citrus curd – the perfect accompaniment to serve with your scones. Scones are a British afternoon tea staple, so you will get to take scones home with you to enjoy Sunday afternoon with your family.

Did You Know?
Scones have been made on the British Islands for almost five-hundred years! Around 1840, scones became an essential part of the fashionable ritual of afternoon tea in England. This was popularized by Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, who was a close friend of Queen Victoria. One afternoon she requested some "light food," which included tea, biscuits and scones. It’s said that she enjoyed it so much that she ordered it every afternoon and the English ritual of Afternoon Tea was born.
