In this 75-minute, online workshop, participants will explore the new SAM exhibit,The Modernists, while generating their own poetry. Professional Poet and accomplished educator Maria James-Thiaw will provide instruction on the practice of writing creatively in response to art, which is called Ekphrasis. Maria Thiaw, M.S., MFA directs the Creative Writing Program at the Capital Area School for the Arts. She is a published author, performance poet and playwright residing in Camp Hill, PA. In 2018 she founded Reclaim Artist Collective, an organization that provides affordable arts programming for marginalized communities. Open to all experience levels.
is an award-winning poet, performer, playwright, and educator. Through innovative workshops and residencies, she brings the art of writing to life for students, whether they be novices or emerging artists.
