Do all pots need to be round? No! In this class, we will use the pottery wheel as a starting point, not as a finishing point. By utilizing paddles, molds, and darting, we are going to explore shapes in our pieces - squares, ovals, triangles. In this 8-week course, students will see examples that build on the basics. The instructor will strike a balance with demonstrations, work time, and constructive feedback throughout each class. Beginning experience throwing on the wheel is required. Included in the cost is everything you need while you are in the class: basic pottery tools, buckets, clay and glazes, firing, and discounted open studio opportunities.
Part of the process in any class is basic studio etiquette in a shared space. At the end of each class you will be responsible for cleaning your wheel, shared tools, and workspace. Clay is messy so clip your nails and keep your watches/rings at home. Please bring a towel to wipe your hands and wear an apron/clothes you can get dirty (clay does wash out). A clean studio is a healthy studio as clay dust can build up if not properly cleaned after each session.
