Class Description:
Stop leaving your best performance behind! Whether you're a runner, biker, pickleball/tennis enthusiast, yoga/Pilates addict, or just a dedicated daily walker, proper nutrition is key to unlocking your full potential. Join us for an enlightening class designed to elevate your athletic performance and support your active lifestyle.
Your guide is our longtime CCKC instructor, Executive Chef Gary Hild. Chef Gary will share some great nutrition and culinary information that will have you at peak performance. At 73, Chef Gary is a dedicated cyclist (last year, he completed the 475-mile RAGBRAI bike tour across Iowa), foodie, and healthy cooking guru. Chef Gary will demonstrate five easy-prep, delicious, and nutritious meals, and you will sample all of them. Chef Gary will guide you through preparing delicious, nutrient-dense meals tailored to fuel your specific activities. You'll discover how to incorporate lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and essential fats into your diet in ways that are both tasty and beneficial for your chosen sport. You’ll also learn:
- Nutrition fundamentals for various activities including running, cycling, yoga, Pilates, and racquet sports like pickleball
- How to create balanced meals that provide sustained energy for your workouts
- Quick and easy pre- and post-exercise snacks to optimize performance and recovery
- Effective hydration strategies
- How to meal prep for a busy, active lifestyle
We will also have fitness/health experts speaking and giving live demonstration. They include:
- Jess Brown is the Group Fitness and Fitness Manager at Genesis Health Club in North Overland Park. She will lead us in a group stretch, move and wake up! She is an advocate of building and maintaining muscle.
- Steve White will demonstrate a Zwift Smart Trainer smart bike and give a lot of great insights on bike training indoors. Steve is an avid cyclist and instructor who served six years on the board of cycling Kansas City, including two years as president. Steve has taught cycling safety to kids and adults throughout the Metro for the past decade — the last seven years of that for BikeWalkKC.
- Matthew Dolton is the General Manager of Fleet Feet at Ward Parkway. Since 1984, Fleet Feet (formerly Gary Gribble's Running Sports) has been serving Kansas City area runners, walkers and enjoyers of great shoes alike.
This class is perfect for fitness enthusiasts of all levels, from weekend warriors to dedicated athletes. You'll leave with a toolkit of recipes, cooking techniques, and nutrition knowledge to help you perform at your best, recover faster, and enjoy your active pursuits even more. - Please enjoy a 10% discount on all items in our retail store during the full calendar day/night of your class or event. Our retail store will be open for browsing prior to class, during any breaks, and after class.
- We provide a full refund if you need to cancel more than three weeks prior to the start of a scheduled class. You will receive an Account Credit if you need to cancel at any time within three weeks but prior to the class start time. Please note that any refund issued for classes purchased using a Gift Certificate or Account Credit will result in reinstatement of the original Gift Card or Account Credit and will bear the same expiration date. Account Credits issued for cancelations within three weeks of a class will expire one year from the date of issuance. We reserve the right to cancel a class for any reason, at any time, in which case you will receive a full refund.
- This class is for adults 18+. Children 14-17 years old are allowed if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please let us know if you plan to bring a minor.
- If (a) you’d like to sit with another registered guest, or (b) have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know in the Comments section of your registration after reading our full description of policies and information about classes. If you've registered with other people on the same order, you will automatically be seated together.
- Your registration tells us that you have read through the class description including the age requirements for that particular class.
