Majesty in the Meadow: Photographing the Gypsy Vanner Horse
Join us for a magical late-afternoon photography workshop dedicated to capturing the beauty and personality of the remarkable Gypsy Vanner Horse. As the sun begins to drop and the meadow fills with warm golden light, you’ll have the opportunity to photograph these stunning horses in a relaxed and picturesque outdoor setting.
Originally bred by Romani travelers in Ireland and Great Britain to pull their living wagons (vardoes), Gypsy Vanner horses—also known as Irish Cobs or Gypsy Cobs—are a compact draft breed celebrated for their gentle temperament, intelligence, and striking appearance. Often compared to Clydesdales but smaller in stature, these horses are instantly recognizable by their flowing manes and tails, dramatic feathering around their hooves, and beautiful pinto color patterns.
During this workshop we will photograph a variety of horses ranging from playful young ponies to majestic adult Vanners. Our horses will be posed in a scenic meadow during the most photogenic time of day—golden hour through sunset — giving you the opportunity to create breathtaking images filled with warm light, atmosphere, and motion.
You will have opportunities to capture:
- Elegant equine portraits
- Horses grazing and interacting naturally
- Dramatic mane-and-feather detail shots
- Horses in motion through the meadow
- Backlit silhouettes and glowing sunset images

Your instructor will provide guidance on composition, lighting, exposure, and capturing personality and movement, helping you turn beautiful moments into striking photographs.
