The workshop will be a day of creating art and self-discovery. We will start the day with a Jackson Pollack's action painting technique, throwing paint at your 24 x 36 canvas. You will be choosing your own colors for all your projects. We will also create a tie-dye t-shirt or silk scarf and a mandala. Each of these projects will offer an opportunity for self-discovery, mindfulness and creative expression.
I have selected two mental health professionals to share with us on our self-discovery journey, Amy Shaffer Post, LCSW, and Dr. Gwen Rock.
Have you ever felt like you're going through the motions without really experiencing life? Would you like to learn how to be more present in your everyday experiences?Would you like to learn how to improve your mood, decrease your stress, and improve your sleep? Amy Shaffer Post has the answer that can do all of these things, Mindfulness! Maybe you've heard of it, but ar unsure what it means. Maybe it's a brand new term to you. Or maybe you practice mindfulness in your daily life already. No matter what your experience level is please join Amy as she walks you through an introduction to mindfulness and teaches you several ways to practice it every day to achieve a new appreciation for yourself, for your body, and for the world around us.
Some thoughts and questions from Dr. Gwen Rock for the Jackson Pollack painting process. Do you wonder why you are drawn to certain colors? Do you attach meaning and/or emotion to colors? When given a blank canvas and instructed to "throw paint" how does that feel? What emotion does that evoke? Our choice of color and the artistic tools we use to express ourselves can provide additional insight into our subconscious mind. Let yourself be intuitively guided into creating artwork and then discover and understand what is revealed through your creation! Learn to listen to and trust your intuition, so you can begin to have a deeper understanding of yourself.
This phenomenal painting event has limited seating so don't wait to register. The area Greencastle Merchants will be providing gift cards and prizes for this event. Joyful Arts will be providing a $100 gift certificate towards classes.
In the five years I've been in business I have been reminded time and time again of the benefits we receive through the creative process. It is my passion to share this with as many people as possible. I have had the pleasure of teaching students with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADD and ADHD, grieving the loss of a loved one, Alzheimer's and people just like you and me dealing with daily stress. I have seen the benefits of creating art first hand, both with my students and in my own life. Creating art has transformed me into a more self-confident person, enabling me to pursue my dreams.
I hope to provide scholarships so please reach out to me if this is something that would benefit you but cannot afford it, please let me know so I can possibly help with a partial or full scholarship.
