You will gain basic knowledge about choosing fabrics, working with sewing patterns, cutting and prepping your fabric, as well as the actual, hands-on construction of this project. This is a great, beginner-friendly class for those interested in garment-making.
*THIS IS AN INTERMEDIATE CLASS. You are required to have taken Sewing Machine Basics with us (or have basic sewing machine skills) before signing up for this class.
You will be required to bring 1.5-2 YARDS of WOVEN FABRIC for your apron. Mid-to-heavyweight linen, linen/cotton blends, linen/rayon blends, mid-to-heavyweight cottons, denim, etc. Cotton canvas or waxed canvas will create a heavy, structured apron, whereas a double gauze or lighter wovens will make for a light, flowy apron. It is also recommend that you pre-wash the fabric beforehand, if possible but not required.
You should also consider bringing a spool of thread that matches your fabric, but the Forge will also have thread options on hand.
The Forge will provide all other tools and materials, but students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own machines and tools, if available.
Duration: 6 hours, with a half hour break in the middle
Visitor price: $120
Member price: $60
*Students are welcome to park in the Forge's parking lot for free. Do not be intimated by the towing signs!
