Exploring local flora, fauna, and history
through cake art!
Classes held at Sweada Mae Art Café
287 W Center St, Marion
Each class will feature a unique cake designed around a theme that ties in with Terradise Nature Center’s mission & values. Kiddos will learn about the inspiration behind it, the elements of nature or local history expressed in it, and techniques used to create it. They will get to try one of these techniques themselves. Then, of course, they’ll get to eat the cake!
Class #1: Local Flora, Tuesday, May 7, 5:00-6:00
Sugarplum will share a cake that highlights native plants found on the grounds of Terradise Nature Center, including identifying features, interesting facts about them, and their uses. Student project will be a vanilla wafer moss & fondant flower mini-cake.
Class #2: Local Fauna, Tuesday, May 14, 5:00-6:00
Sugarplum will share a cake that features critters that live on the property of Terradise Nature Center such as squirrels, insects, birds, and more. Jennifer is also a trained wildlife rehabilitator specializing in squirrels, so kids will definitely learn a lot about them! Student project will be a butterfly cupcake.
Class #3: Local Aquatics, Tuesday, May 21, 5:00-6:00
Sugarplum will share a cake that depicts the beauty of the Scioto River, which runs through the Terradise property. Children will learn about the fish, crustaceans, rocks, and aquatic plants that exist in that environment.Student project will be a gelatin mini-aquarium.
Class #4: Local History, Tuesday, May 28, 5:00-6:00
Sugarplum will share a cake that expresses characters and events from Marion county history. Student project will be a mini-cake with Marion-inspired decorations.
