Established in 1997, The Tampa Firefighters Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that pays tribute to our firefighters, past and present, and the rich legacy they have left us. We honor this heritage by preserving the history of the department, providing fire safety education, and emergency awareness to the local community.
Tampa Firefighters Museum Hours are Tuesday - Friday 10am to 2pm, by reservation only.
The history of the building began in 1911, serving as the downtown Tampa fire station and the original fire department headquarters until 1978 when a modern new fire station was built across the street. The features of the building reflect the unique time during which it was constructed. This fire station was the last one built in Tampa with horse-drawn fire apparatus in mind.
You begin to see the exhibits as soon as you enter the front door. You are surrounded by century-old brick, photographs of how the museum looked when it was a working fire station adorn the walls, and below your feet the floor shows scars from the days when hooves of the horse-pulled, heavy steam-drawn fire apparatus were called out of the station to an alarm.
We can't wait for your visit!
TFM is a small museum, groups much larger than 20 may be challenging to accommodate.
Please contact us at education@tampafirefightersmuseum.org so we can help coordinate your large group visit.
If you are visiting with children ages 1-8, please check put our Downtown Safety District page. We have an interactive children's exhibit created with this age group in mind. Reservations are required and must be made on the Downtown Safety District page.
