Interested in learning how a Gourd is made, and partake in the making of your own!? Welcome to the Hot Shop here at Terrapin Glass. Our Hot Shop is a production glassblowing studio that opens up the space to teach a limited number of classes on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Here’s what to expect when you sign-up for one of these classes in the Hot Shop!

These classes are meant to be a fun experience for anyone and everyone to play with molten glass. All of these classes begin with giving students some time to get settled in and choose the colors they want inside of their piece; each student will get to choose one or two colors. After that, instructors go over safety within the Hot Shop before everyone heads in to see a demonstration on how the object of focus is created. You will leave our special space with an understanding of different forms of glassblowing, as well as a cool experience having made your own piece of glass art.

With seats in these classes being a hot commodity (pun intended); please read the following before registering for your class:

We want our studio atmosphere to be a respectful learning environment for both teachers and students. In order to maintain this goal, we ask that all students are fully aware of what they are signing up for. Please discuss this with everyone in your group before registering your class so that everyone comes to the studio prepared.

With that being said, we value our time, as well as our students. Because of this, we do require notice from you at least 48 hours before your class to reschedule or cancel. This gives us time to refill the class, or otherwise book our time. Consider your purchase similar to that of a plane ticket; the plane will leave on time, with or without you. No shows, late arrivals, unsafe dress, or non participation decisions: we offer absolutely no refunds or reschedules. Please register for this special experience with the understanding that we not make any exceptions to this policy.

Other important information:

Classes in the Hot Shop are ages 7 and up, but anyone under the age of 16 must have an adult register and pay to participate in the class with them.

Glass will not be ready to take home until the Friday following your class after 12 noon; never the next day. Shipping is available for an additional fee based on location and objects made. If this doesn’t suit you, please check out our Flame Shop, as those objects are available for next day pick-up (excluding Sundays, as we are closed Mondays & Tuesdays).

The color options included in this class are as follows: Opaque red, transparent orange, opaque orange, opaque yellow, transparent amber, opaque lime green, transparent sparkly dark green, opaque blue, transparent cobalt blue, opaque sky blue, transparent dark purple, transparent true purple, opaque light purple, transparent magenta, opaque pink, opaque black, and our signature mixes: Summer Sunset, Grape Vines, and Forest Adventure. Colors available for stem and body differ due to varying properties of each color, your instructor will review the options with you during class.
