Join us for an immersive week-long workshop spanning five (5) days, where students will embark on the journey of crafting a scaled model of a quarter-turn staircase featuring graceful winders and curved stringers. This immersive experience will guide students in creating hand-drawn stereotomical drawings to master the art of stair layout.
A quarter-turn staircase is a fascinating architectural element that gracefully changes direction by 90 degrees, facilitating connections between different floor levels. This change in direction can be achieved by incorporating a landing or by introducing winders, which are pie-shaped or triangular steps at the turning point. By adjusting the height of the landing allows for the creation of diverse stair configurations. Often referred to as "L-shaped stairs," these designs are renowned for their convenience and aesthetic appeal.
Dancing winder stairs, a captivating variation of the L shaped design, add a touch of magic to the transition, making it more compact and visually engaging. Dancing winder stairs gracefully curve around corners, providing a seamless transition, making them a favored choice in modern homes and sustainable architectural designs. The beauty of dancing winder stairs lies in their efficient use of space and visually engaging aesthetics. They effortlessly navigate corners, producing an attractive and harmonious shift
Key Learning Objectives:
- Gain proficiency in understanding stair building codes and minimum standards.
- Master the art of resolving stair layouts through the art of stereotomy.
- Construct a scaled-down model of a quarter-turn staircase.
- Explore the fundamentals of stereotomy.
- Skillfully extract critical angles and curves without relying on mathematics or computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Bring your 2-dimensional drawing to life by constructing a detailed scale model, directly transposing measurements from your drawing.
