Wheel Throwing Pottery
Ages 10 - 17
7/24 – 7/27, 1:00pm – 4:00pm, cost $120 + $40 material fee
Campers will spend the week throwing on the wheel learning basic skills and making some masterpieces and explore what it’s like to be a potter and focus on learning to use the potter’s wheel to throw and trim pots. Campers will make bowls, cups, and plates as they learn the basic techniques of pottery. They will also learn how to decorate and glaze their pots.
Our goal is to have clay projects fired and ready to be picked up 3-4 weeks after the class is held. Once the clay projects are ready, participants have 14 days to pick up their projects.
Part of the process in wheel throwing is basic studio etiquette. Your class time includes not only throwing, but also cleaning your wheel and surrounding floor area and clay tools that were used. Clay is messy - leave your watches and rings at home. Please bring a towel to wipe your hands and wear an apron/clothes you can get dirty (clay does wash out). A clean studio is a healthy studio as clay dust can build up.
Rumriver Art Center's main method of communication is email. If you prefer another communication method, please indicate so in the access considerations box in this class registration form.
