Soft Charcoal Pastel 8 Week Course Spring 2025

Location: Rumriver Art Center (upstairs studio suite 201)
Being that we are located in a very old building, there are no elevators or escalators. The only way into the upstairs studio is to climb up 18 stairs. We are currently exploring options and funding to make this space more accessible for everyone.

In this 8 week class students will learn the history of the pastel medium and pastel artists; understand painting surfaces and their features. Understand how to manipulate pastel sticks for creative mark-making and experiment with making marks, e.g., blending, layering, hatching, cross hatching, stippling, etc. Finally, students will put their newfound skill sets into practice and create a final project on an 8” x 10” Ampersand Pastelbord.

Students are required to provide their own pastels.
