Intro to Basic Jewelry Techniques

Bring new life to your old jewelry using design and color theory techniques to repurpose your broken or outdated pieces into a one of kind showpiece!

Ages 12+ (with parent on-site, preferably with a parent actively participating in the class as a student)

Instructor: Alyson Toone

Turn your old jewelry into something new! Learn to upcycle your old jewelry into a piece of jewelry that you love while learning introductory techniques and skills. Using basic jewelry making techniques such as knotting, creating pendants and using jump rings, you will be taught how to salvage good stuff from your own old jewelry to make something new. You will learn to think like a designer by using what you have and learning to design within boundaries. You will also learn how to apply color theory and design rules to create something that is uniquely you.

All construction materials and tools (pliers, wire, jump rings, etc) are provided but bring in your own discarded, broken or old-fashioned/outdated jewelry. When looking through your own jewelry, brooches, old earrings, and beaded necklaces work well for this exercise. The fancier the better to make a truly interesting piece. Say goodbye to your junk drawer of jewelry!

**Please be sure to bring your own jewelry pieces to this class. You will be re-working YOUR OWN jewelry components into new upcycled pieces!!**
