Join me in my Wilmslow kitchen for a new style of class. I've invited some of the people I've been learning from, who have most inspired me, so that you can meet them and learn from them too. I'll be on hand and will make lunch for us all at the end of the demonstration.
Learn to make sourdough at home
Come and learn from award-winning artisan baker Aidan Monks and Catherine Connor from Lovingly Artisan. They sell their wonderful bread at Altrincham Market and to some of the best restaurants throughout the North West.
I first saw Aiden demonstrate at an event last year and was glued. His knowledge of the process, the history and the health benefits of sourdough, combined with him being a natural storyteller make him the perfect person to set you on your way. I had tried loads of sourdough recipes before I met him and hadn't had much success. Now I make sourdough every week.
What to expect
This informal look and learn workshop is designed for anyone who has struggled with or who has never tried baking with sourdough before. It will give you a real insight into the art of bread making at home and you'll leave ready to get baking.
Aidan will kick start the workshop by explaining the health benefits of sourdough and why it has a positive effect on your gut health.
He will then take you through how best to create your sourdough starter and how to maintain it - through the art of bread baking in a conventional oven. You will be given plenty of time to absorb the information that Aidan shares, as you become familiar with the art of baking sourdough.
Bring your questions and any poorly starters you may have as we have allocated plenty of time to answer questions and fix sick starters you may have at home.
We will finish the session with lunch, made by me using lots of lovely sourdough, and a glass of wine while we chat.
You will learn the following -
- why sourdough?
- how to create and look after a 'starter'
- making dough with the starter and how to mix using a domestic mixer
- the benefits of using different flours
- moulding techniques
- resting
- baking - how to bake in a domestic oven, and knowing when your bread is ready
£70 class cost includes lunch, drinks, course notes and your take-home Lovingly Artisan starter.
For an additional fee, you can purchase your own home sourdough making kit, so that you have no excuse but to get cracking! The kit includes; proving basket, a bag of Gilchesters Organic’s flour, scraper and bread blade for £30.00.
These classes will start promptly at the advertised time. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before to settle in and get a drink.
