IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT: EXPLORE/EXPAND/EXCEL with torch-fired Enameling
Using a torch, we will cover various methods of line creation and imagery within your enamel piece. By applying successive layers of liquid, acrylic, as well as transparent and opaque powdered enamels, techniques such as sgraffito, graphite, sifting, fire scale, acid-etching, painting, and more, will be covered. Additionally, under/maturity/over-firing are utilized to build and preserve drawings and layers in the final piece. No matter the student's skill level, there will be the opportunity to immerse oneself in new ideas and principles. A powerpoint and Discussion of various setting options will be covered.
Minimum Skill Level: All levels welcomed.
What will we do? Torch safety. Heat containment to expedite enamel flow. Metal preparation, including forming various gauges of metal and how to decide which is best for each situation metal-forming to create more stable pieces. Use of liquid, powdered, and other enamels and which is best suited for each application. Different approaches to firing based on the size of the piece.

Cost: $875.00 for 5 days plus $100.00 materials fee to complete class projects. Material fee to be paid first day of class.
About our visiting instructor, Anne Havel: Anne is an independent studio artist for 18 years, teaching workshops and exhibiting in juried fine craft shows. Work is included in the permanent collection of the Enamel Arts Foundation as well as numerous private collections.
