Wine and chocolate, could there be a better pairing? This class is for wine (and chocolate!) enthusiasts, both beginners and pros, who would like to learn all the ins and outs of wine in a “one-stop-shop” class. Tonight’s class is taught by Food and Beverage Journalist Dave Eckert. Eckert has spent the better part of 30 years exploring the world of wine through print, broadcast, hands-on wine tastings, wine and food pairings, and vineyard and winery profiles. In his award-winning Public Broadcasting series, Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert, Eckert produced, hosted, and directed 275 half-hour episodes on six continents! He currently hosts food and beverage segments on My KC LIVE on KCTV5 and writes and food and beverage column for Kansas City Homes and Style Magazine.
This 2.5-hour class is designed for those with an appreciation for one of the world’s oldest beverages. The goal of the class will be to gain a working knowledge of the various grape varietals and then gauge what styles of wine appeal most to you and why. We’ll also do some tasting to get a sense of each wine’s flavor complexity and gain a deep understanding of how to pair wines with a variety of chocolates.
Dave will go over basic varieties of wine, how to taste wine professionally, the basics of wine making, reading and understanding a wine label, how to order wine from a wine list in a restaurant and how to select wines with ease and confidence in a wine shop or online. We will cover the most popular grape varieties and regions around the world as well. Learn the fundamentals of proper serving and storage, along with basic wine and food pairing principles, ensuring your wine experiences are always top-notch. This class will have light snacks included.
