We are excited to partner with the Fine Arts Theatre Group again to offer this limited seating, special foodie event and preview of the movie The Taste of Things.
Juliette Binoche stars alongside her real-life ex Benoît Magimel in this sumptuous romantic drama about a famed gourmet (Magimel) in 1880s France whose twenty-year relationship with his private chef (Binoche) has mellowed into a soulmate bond. He desperately wants to marry her. She’s skeptical, preferring their current arrangement to a conventional partnership. The thing that keeps them together is their obsession with food: preparing it, eating it, talking about it. So what better way for him to convince her to settle down than to cook her a meal?
Director Anh Hung Tran combines culinary and sensual delight in the tradition of the best cinematic gastronomy, opening with a 40-minute cooking sequence that’s as rich and mouthwatering as a pat of butter in a sizzling hot pan. Tran won the Award for Best Director at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Gastronomic Director Pierre Gagnaire’s food scenes are so gorgeous, Robbie Collin of The Telegraph declared, “You’ll swear you can taste every shot.” France has submitted The Taste of Things as its candidate for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
We’ll begin at The Culinary Center of Kansas City for a buffet inspired by the film, including Filo-Wrapped Brie with Apricot Chutney, Mushroom and Gruyère Cheese Tarts, Tomato Cognac Soup Shots, Olive Tapenade with Crostini, French Onion Meatballs, and Chocolate Espresso Mousse topped with Raspberries. We’ll also hear from Fine Arts Theatre Owner Brian Mossman who will discuss the film. A must-attend event for so many reasons, but especially by those who love food and cooking.
