Sgraffito

Sgraffito comes from the Italian work graffiare, meaning "to scratch".  Our guest instructor this session is Bonnie Mitechell, a local artist who utilizes the sgraffito technique to show expression in her art.  Bonnie's inspiration comes from her love of animals and nature and her images explain something about their interaction with the human environment.  Bonnie will show students how she uses the sgraffito technique through underglaze, revealing a contrasting color when the clay body is exposed.  Students will learn how to apply the sgraffito technique to different forms, working on a new shape each week.
