As such, the objective of this workshop will be to focus on
improving basic drawing skills.
By understanding the
foundational concepts of shape and value, attendees of any artistic skill level can
build drawing skills and increase confidence.
While making observations
from a still life, students will learn a simple systematic approach to making
two dimensional images that read as three dimensional forms.
Using a toned paper,
attendees will begin to control values to define forms within a shape and
maintain the silhouette of an object. We will also discuss drawing elements
such as composition, line, edges, temperature, and color as needed.
The technique is specific in nature but once learned it is
extremely useful in successfully improving image making in any medium.
Class will begin with a short talk about drawing concepts
and ideas, as well as practices you can use that work every
time, rules of drawing if you will. I will discuss the technique to
be used in the workshop then provide a quick demonstration.
Following the demo
attendees will do some introductory drawings using the technique. Students will
get individual suggestions, advice, and critique followed by a short break.
After the break, there will
be more time to draw, refining technique and making some more developed
drawings as well as further instruction.
The workshop focuses on a
specific technique which requires certain materials.
