Homeschool ART - Kindergarten to 3rd Grades

Art classes at this level will provide your child with the opportunity to explore and make things in a wide variety of media and techniques. There will be classes using tempera, watercolor, clay pastel, paper mache, and graphite. We will be painting, drawing, printing, sculpting, and manipulating paper with origami. Generally, we will try to explore many different ways to create artwork. Students will also study one artist and their work.

Sandy received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from BGSU with an empahsis in design and ceramics, along with a BS in Education. She has taught in Parma City Schools and in the Genoa district. Sandy has also taught music and art at BG Christian Academy and is presently the art instructor at BG Christian for grades K-12.


Duration: Class meets weekly for 13 weeks, 1-hour sessions

Pre-Requisites: None

Age restrictions: students entering Kindergarten through 3rd grades

Supplies needed: pencil, glue stick, Elmer's type glue, scissors, eraser, Prang brand watercolor (basic colors), ruler, and colored pencils. Please put all supplies in a container marked with your name. This will travel back and forth with students for class. There may be additional items that students might be asked to bring in for certain projects.

Homeschool SCRATCH (Coding) - ages 7 to 11

Introduction to Coding – 1 hour, 1 day a week – In this course students will learn about programming logic and flow. This will be accomplished by using a program called Scratch. Students will design and make video games using a drag and drop software. No Prior Experience Required!


* Meet your instructor: Mr. Nick Morone

Mr. Morone a student at BGSU studying Biology with a minor in Spanish. He has been doing various forms of robotics and programming for the last 9 years and has attended many different Professional Development classes. He was a VEX Robotics competitor from 2010-2014 and qualified for the world championship, and has been running VEX Robotics camps and competitions since 2014. In 2016-2017, Mr. Morone was the assistant coach for the Toledo Technology Academy robotics team. Last year he led classes for The Home School for The Arts in programming logic and languages. He also led some BiG Idea Maker Clubs.

Homeschool ART - 7th to 12th Grades

Art class at this level will have more focus on particular techniques. We will focus on keeping a sketchbook, so there will be a beginning unit on drawing. Students will have a sketch assignment each week to practice this skill. We will complete projects by drawing with various media, painting, printing, watercolor, sumi-e, and clay. In addition to discussing the elements of art, we will also explore the way art is organized through principles of organization such as balance, proportion, emphasis, variety, movement, rhythm, and harmony.

Homeschool ROBOT C (Coding/Robotics) - ages 11 to 14

Robotics and Programming – 90 minutes, 1 day a week – Students will learn the basics of robotics and programming. All of the programming in this class will involve text based C++ style coding. The majority of this class will be in a virtual simulator while students learn to code. A final project will include working with others to build a robot and a miniature competition.

Homeschool PYTHON (Programming) - 5th - 8th grades

Python: Video Game Edition


Python is one of the most popular programming languages right now. If your child is interested in learning how to code, then this is the place to be. This class is for complete beginners as well as those with some background knowledge or previous experience. Students will learn the Python programming language through text-based video games such as a joke teller, a dungeon diving quest, hangman, and tic-tac-toe and tools and techniques like programming flowcharts and artificial intelligence.


DATE/TIME NOTE: we are currently waiting for Blade to receive his teaching assistant schedule in order to have a set time for this course. We should have a day of the week and time for this course in early August. You can pre-register for this course anytime. We will post dates as soon as it is decided.

Meet your instructor: Mr. Blade Frisch

Blade Frisch is an educator and software developer who focuses on creating quality of life technology and educating the next generation of programmers. He has undergraduate degrees in computer science education and music education, worked for Nationwide Insurance, and is the co-founder and lead developer at Discoverly LLC. He is returning to NW Ohio to pursue masters degrees in computer science and special education after teaching 6-12 grade computer science in Naples, Florida.

Homeschool ARDUINO (Electronics) - 9th to 12th grades

Arduino 101 – 2 hours, 1 day a week – In this course students will learn about electronics and circuitry along with micro controller programming. The students will learn how to code in the Arduino Integrative Development Environment (IDE) which very much resembles a C++ IDE. The class will contain many different projects, some of which they will be able to keep and take home with them. An Arduino Kit will be provided along with some other electronics supplies as part of the supply fee. The supply fee has been added in to the total of the class.
