Learn to paint the sumi-e way using ink, watercolor, rice paper, and bamboo brushes. You will learn a variety of brushstroke techniques while painting irises. Class includes morning and afternoon demonstrations plus open painting time.
Beginning through advanced artists welcome. This class is great for kids ages 13 and older, great for adults, great for the whole family!
Everyone should bring:
• newspaper, white wool felt or tightly woven light colored smooth wool for undersurface
• blotting towel or paper towels
• 2 water containers for rinsing brushes, the size of large yogurt containers
• at least 6 small white/light colored FLAT plates or saucers for mixing ink. Saucer size is good. Small paper plates will do in a pinch. Bowls and muffin cups are not suitable for color mixing.
We are using traditional Asian painting supplies for this class. We will share ink and color. There is a $20 supply fee, cash only, (not included in the workshop cost, payable to the instructor) that covers two brushes, shared ink, shared color.
If you already have supplies, please bring them. No need to pay the supply fee if you already have Chinese, Japanese, or Korean supplies and do not use the group supplies.
