This special topic wheel class will focus on making mugs on the potter’s wheel. Demonstrations will include different thrown mug forms, focus function, set exploration and handles that fit the form. This 4-week course will not cover glazing, but slip techniques will be available and the teacher will clear glaze mugs at the end of session if desired. Beginning experience throwing on the pottery wheel recommended. Included in the cost is everything you need while you are in class: basic pottery tools, buckets, clay, firing, discounted open studio opportunities.
Part of the process in wheel throwing is basic studio etiquette. Your class time includes not only throwing, but also cleaning your wheel and surrounding floor area and clay tools that were used. Clay is messy - leave your watches and rings at home. Please bring a towel to wipe your hands and wear an apron/clothes you can get dirty (clay does wash out). A clean studio is a healthy studio as clay dust can build up.
