Designing in VCarve (Desk Phone Holder)

Improve your design and fabrication skills, while expanding your knowledge in VCarve software. This class will walk you through designing a desk iphone charging holder, as pictured above. This is intended to teach students some of the finer points of the VCarve software, which is a CAD/CAM software that can interface with our ShopBot, while making a functional take home. Students will measure their own phone and be able to design a desk charger station around that.

• No CNC experience required, but is helpful in understanding the basics of the software

• Taking measurements of actual objects and using them for design parameters.

• Learn how to accurately measure, effectively space, and scale objects in VCarve

• Understand fillets, and learn about CNC joinery

• Understanding multiple toolpaths and router bits

If you are not cleared to use our ShopBot, take the orientation class to get cleared to use this awesome tool! If you are cleared on the ShopBot, why not expand to another CNC machine like our Trotec Laser Engraver.

Plan Your Visit

All materials and safety supplied. Students are required to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants to participate. Plan to arrive for call about 10-15 min early and check in at the front desk. Our main entrance and parking lot entrance are located on State St. Free parking at IF is available, along with street parking.
