WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
We are so pleased to provide the opportunity for growing artists to further improve their artistic knowledge and skill in FIVE different workshops! Choose one, or take all five – and gain skills for a lifetime! Each workshop is a stand-alone class, so students are welcome to enroll in as many as they like. Our instructor, Hayley Mayne, will guide students as they explore different subject matter experimenting with a variety of materials. We are excited to be offering the following courses: Colorful Pet Portraits, Seascapes/Water Reflections, Portraiture with Expression, Shiny, Sparkly, Reflective, and Wild Animal Painting.
REQUIREMENTS:
Due to the nature of this portfolio-building program (intermediate/advanced), we recommend each student have at least two years of previous experience at CCAS (after school program), or one year of HS art, in order to ensure basic knowledge of art materials, as well as a basic understanding of art elements and principles. Class size is limited and designed for mentoring the needs of each student.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Please bring a snack, lunch, water bottle and sketchbook (can be purchased upon registration for $15) all other art supplies provided.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
Workshop 1 - Colorful Pet Portraits - Friday, June 11, 2021
Do you love your pets so much that you want to be able to draw and paint them? This is the class for you! In this workshop, we will focus on painting dogs, cats, and other pets using vivid colors! Learn to accurately render fur, facial features, and expression while selecting colors with intention. You will be amazed at what you can create!
Workshop 2 - Seascapes/Water Reflections - Friday, June 18, 2021
Inspired by the abundant beauty and diversity of earth’s natural landscapes, we will begin by focusing on the components of seascapes and bodies of water. On this base of knowledge, you will learn to capture stunning reflections in your seascape and water depictions. You will learn to effectively manipulate color to bring life and vibrancy to your paintings! See how landscape painting can truly help you feel more connected to the world around you.
Workshop 3 - Portraiture with Expression - Friday, June 25, 2021
Any artist who excels at depicting the human face knows practice is key to developing these skills! Learning the basics of human features, as well as placement and proportion, will certainly help bring expression and life to your work. Learning to really see the face is the key - we will be doing lots of fun and engaging exercises to help build these skills. Before you know it, you’ll be rendering true emotion and feelings in the faces you draw!
Workshop 4 - Shiny, Sparkly, Reflective - Has been moved from Friday, July 9, 2021 to Friday, July 23rd
Still life rendering is crucial in your ability to view any object through an artist’s lens. Once you can do this, the possibilities are endless! Learn to find the beauty in the objects around you, and accurately depict reflective, gleaming surfaces! Focusing heavily on light, shadow, and reflection, you will gain knowledge and skills that you are sure to carry with you for years to come.
Workshop 5 - Wild Animal Painting - Friday, July 16, 2021
Learn to draw and paint wild animals! We will spend time practicing a variety of textures, including fur, feathers, and scales. You will learn to draw different animals using basic shapes, and then build on those basics to add the detail, facial features, and expression. These skills can be applied to drawing or painting any animal on earth!
CREATING A SAFE SPACE:
Our staff has worked diligently to implement protocols as recommended by the ADHS and CDC, and we are eager to serve our students with their health and safety as our first priority. We require all students to wear masks when in the studio. We are taking all precautions recommended including taking temperatures upon arrival, routine cleaning and sanitizing, maintaining social distancing (friend groups will be sat together at the same table if possible), reduced capacity, single use of aprons and supplies, and overall just being very, very clean!
