Offset wood turning is a technique that transforms the lathe into a power carver to create a variety of shapes such as an ellipse, a triangle and a soft square. These shapes are achieved by changing the centers of a rotating piece causing the turner to hit only certain points on an object as it spins. Offset turning can be used to make a variety of objects such as furniture parts, boxes, tools, utensils, candlesticks, instrument necks and more. Beth will introduce the proper use of roughing gouge and spindle gouge to create 2 shapes that can be utilized in a variety of ways to make unique details in your personal work, from functional furniture to sculptural objects.
