Stretch your creative muscles a bit and challenge your centering and throwing skills on the Potter’s Wheel as we explore the making of bowls. This is an intermediate to advanced class. You will work with a little bit larger quantity of clay per pot than a basic class. Included in the cost is everything you need while you are in class: basic pottery tools, buckets, clay, firing, discounted open studio opportunities.
Week 1: Centering a 2 to 4 pound ball of clay; creative play with variations of shape and size.
Week 2: Considering the rim and foot, ideas for making a bowl with terminations that are stronger and more balanced physically and visually.
Week 3: Stacking Bowls and nesting bowls. Explore making a set of related bowls.
Week 4: Bowls with attachments: handles, spouts.
Please bring a towel to wipe your hands and wear an apron/clothes you can get dirty (clay does wash out).
Part of the process in wheel throwing is basic studio etiquette. Your class time includes not only throwing, but also cleaning your wheel and surrounding floor area and clay tools that were used. Clay is messy - leave your watches and rings at home. A clean studio is a healthy studio as clay dust can build up.
