Add visual arts education to your pod's curriculum through our twelve-class program that can be customized for grades 2 through 8. Students will learn new skills and ways of art making in diverse artistic media. Practical hands-on learning will be complemented by age-accessible and interactive lessons in art history, analysis, and theory. We believe in the value of arts education—and we believe in making it fun!
This program is designed for in-person instruction in our large, private studio, with measures taken to ensure the safety of all attendees, staff, and family members. A full description of these measures can be found below. We require that all attendees are in the same learning pod (i.e. learning pods that are responsibly restricting their interactions to that pod). We can accommodate groups of 5-10 people.
Flexible Schedule
Time: Classes run for 3 hours. Available time between 8am-2pm
Day: Tuesday through Friday
Frequency: up to twice a week
Program Specifics
Our program was designed from a wealth of experience teaching fun, multimedia art classes in our studios, and with guidance from the Ontario Arts Curriculum for grades 2-8. All materials are included in the program (and we do the clean-up!) Below are the fundamental concepts and subjects that will be covered in varying depths according to grade-level.
Fundamentals: The Elements of Art: Line, Colour, Shape, Value, Texture, Form, and Space; Exploring Ways of Art Making; The Creative Process; Expression Through Art; Developing Visual Literacy; Art History of the World and its Diverse Cultures; Historical and Contemporary Art in Canada.
An at-home component will complement the in-studio classes. This will consist of small projects using found objects, photography, drawing, and digital art, as well as research using online tools and museum collections. The at-home component will take no more than 1 hour per week, but students are welcome to spend more time if they enjoy it!
A Google Classroom will be set-up for your pod that will include a summary of each week's activities, links to different resources, and a drop-box for sending in digital works.
We will not be evaluating the work of the students in this program.
Cost
$480+tax per person ($40 per class)
We acknowledge that paying for an educational program is not accessible for everyone. With this in mind, have priced our program as low as possible; the price covers materials costs, the instructor's salary, and the facilities costs. We have also added a section in the registration form to anonymously gift an amount to another registrant, or to a general fund for anyone in need of financial assistance. We will not keep any of this money; if there is any leftover, it will be returned to the donor.
Covid-19 Considerations
As this program will be running in-studio, measures will be taken to ensure the safety of all attendees, staff, and family members. The large studio space allows for the practicing of social distancing. Masks or face shields must be worn properly by all in our studios. Hand washing/sanitizing will be required upon entry. If an attendee or member of their household is sick, they must stay home and follow Ottawa Health guidelines until they are no longer a risk. If contacts with the pod had symptoms, class will be postponed until all with symptoms are cleared via Covid-19 testing and are 24 hours free of symptoms. We will have plans in place to ensure that there are alternative ways to make up a missed class/project for individuals, or in the event that the whole pod must isolate, and we will resume the class once able to do so. With the evolving nature of these circumstances, it is possible that gathering restrictions may change. If this happens, we assure you that we will work to adapt our program to an online format, or provide refunds if this is not possible.
