Wood Lathe Orientation: Exotic Wood Pen

This class will teach you the basics of how to use a lathe as you make a pen out of exotic woods

• The basics of how to use a wood lathe, and proper tool technique
  

• How a lathe works, how it functions, and the wood-turning tools you will need to turn a square block of wood into almost anything
  

• We will walk you through the parts of turning a fine pen. Once the wooden planks have been turned and finished, we will walk through the steps of assembling the pen
  

• Confidence to take on that next lathe project you are thinking about tackling

Tool Clearance

• The lathe room and any of our spindles tools (gouges, chucks, centers, etc..)

• This does not clear you for bowl and vessel use on these lathes

(Idea Foundry workshop members who have taken this class are cleared for independent use of these tools in the shop. Learn more about membership here.)

Pairs Well With

Learn how to turn bowls and/or hollow vessels in one of these classes Intermediate Woodturning I: Log to Bowl or Intermediate Woodturning II: Hollow Vessel

Plan Your Visit

All materials and safety equipment supplied.  Closed-toed shoes, natural fibers (cotton, denim, linen), with long hair pulled back. Plan to arrive for class about 10-15 min early and check in at the front desk.  Our main entrance is on State Street, with parking lot entrance on State St. as well. IF parking and street parking available.
