Intermediate Woodturning II: Hollow Vessel

Come take this next-level 8-hour wood-turning class to learn how to create your own hollow vessel! The student will learn basic end grain hollowing techniques and hollow form design techniques. They will complete two projects: a small open end grain vase and the prep, mount, shape & hollow a small enclosed hollow form through a small opening at the top of the piece.

• Ages 16+  (Minors require a parent/guardian present during class)

• Those that want to advance their wood-turning skills and/or have taken one of our other wood-turning classes.

• Wood-turning Orientation: Exotic Pen or Wood-turning: Spindle Class must be completed before you can take this class.

Skills Toolbox

• Will learn properly hollowing techniques

• Will learn how to select specific tools for their desired usage

• Prep, mount and shape hollow vessels and learn technique on how to properly turn a lid to fit the vessel

Tool Clearance

• No Idea Foundry tool clearance

• Not required, but bring a hollowing tool, Spindle Gouge and Parting Tool if you have them. Otherwise, these tools are provided in the classroom.

Plan Your Visit

All materials and safety equipment supplied.  Closed-toed shoes, long sleeved shirts, natural fibers (cotton, denim, linen), with long hair pulled back must be worn. Plan to arrive for class about 10-15 min early and check in at the front desk.  Please observe social distancing when entering or exiting the building and when in the front lobby as well as the workspace.  Our main entrance is on State Street, with parking lot entrance on State St. as well. IF parking and street parking available.

Masks are required.  If you are unable to wear a mask, a face shield will be provided for you.
