Interested in designing artistic or functional pieces using the Thunder Laser cutter/engraver but not sure where to even get started? This class is intended to be a beginner’s guide that helps you take your concept, create it on the computer, get the files to the laser cutter, make your object, and process the sample afterward. Basically, we will take you through the entire process giving you the knowledge you need to make your designs and the confidence to show up and make it happen after the class is over.

- Learn what a vector file is, and why they are important
- Learn the basics of Inkscape for laser cutting and engraving, the open source design tool that we'll be using in the class
- How to take images and integrate them into your design
- How to get your design files onto the computer and into Lightburn (the software that runs the laser)

Plan Your Visit
- The design portion of the class will be displayed on a large TV. Students are welcomed and encouraged to bring their own computer to follow along in the class. The class will use Inkscape version 1.1.2. Please come with the software already installed as their will not be time to install the software during class, and bring a mouse. All physical materials will be supplied by the instructor. Recommended personal protective equipment (PPE) to bring with you include safety glasses, close toed shoes, natural fiber clothing (cotton, denim, linen).
- Plan to arrive for class about 10-15 min early and check in at the front desk. Our main entrance is on State Street, with paid parking available on the street (about $1/hr) and fully validated parking in the Gravity Garage (see registration email for details).
